Chicago Crew Behind The Scenes for ESPN Body Issue

We shot behind the scenes for ESPN The Magazine Body Issue, which features professional athletes posing nude in order to show off the different body types of athletes from differing sports, fitness, and skill levels.

We shot with three members of the Colts Offensive Line: Anthony Castonzo, Todd Herremans, and Jack Mewhort. They were accompanied by ESPN anchor and reporter, Kenny Mayne.

First, the shoot consisted of the athletes preparing for the shoot by getting hair and makeup then being shot by the photographer in various poses. Meanwhile, Kenny Mayne cracked jokes about them and made fun of all three throughout the day.

When shooting Mayne’s pieces I remained handheld for a lot of it to give it a reality feel and to help bounce from one subject to the next. I also used sticks and my slider to get beauty shots and nice behind the scenes b-roll of the photo shoot.

Shoot Location

Originally all five offensive linemen for the Colts had been asked to participate but two declined because they were too nervous about being shot naked.

The three who participated almost cancelled as well because of nerves. Once they warmed up they were great sports and excellent participants. They even suggested a joke/throwaway pose to try at the end, which ended up making it into the magazine!

This was shot at a photo studio just north of Indianapolis, IN.
