NBC Today Show Rock Climbing

NBC reached for a segment all about 14-year-old climbing phenomenon, Ashima Shiraishi. Today Show host Dylan Dreyer did more than just sit down for an interview – she climbed for an interview.

Shiraishi is not like most 14-year-old girls. Instead of hanging out with friends after school she is hanging from a rock climbing wall. She’s set many records and is called the best female rock climber in the world. She said, “I don’t have to think, I just climb.”

Shiraishi’s favorite type of rock climbing is called bouldering. No ropes or harnesses are allowed and you still have to get to the top. Difficulty levels range from V0 to V16 and she is the only female ever to reach and succeed at level V14. Twice! Her next goal is to be in the 2020 Olympics in Japan when they will hopefully include rock climbing for the first time.
